On the morning of April 25th, the Theme Symposium of Ningbo Development Forum 2015 subjected with “China ‘One Belt One Road’ Strategy and the Choice of Ningbo” was held in the Lecture Hall at ZWU, sponsored by Ningbo Municipal Publicity Department and Ningbo Academy of Social Sciences. Prof. ZHENG Yong-nian, our visiting professor, head of Institute of the East Asia Studies, National University of Singapore gave the themed lecture and the vice president of ZWU YAN Guo-qing presided the symposium with more than 500 participants attending it.
Prof. ZHENG firstly analyzed lucidly three questions concerning “One Belt One Road”: why is it constructed? , why does it claim China has the ability to construct it? , and what risk might it face in constructing it? Besides, Prof. ZHENG proposed several suggestions for Ningbo how to make the choices in the strategy of “One Belt One Road”. Then, in the Q & A session, Prof. ZHENG gave detailed answers to the questions, such as, the relationship between great powers in the new era, the relationship between “One Belt” and “One Road”, the mainstays and the ways of “Go Global” strategy and pointed out Ningbo should adequately make use of the University of Nottingham Ningbo as a platform in the strategy of “One Belt One Road”. Finally, Prof. ZHENG encouraged students to absorb knowledge from the textbooks and the society to make themselves complete by seizing the historic opportunity.
All the participants agreed Prof. ZHENG made them have a thorough understanding of current policies of domestic and foreign affairs. It would be of great significance to instruct their work, study and development.
