The committee of CUMCM announced the results of mathematic modeling contest of 2004 in the evening of October 29 . The group formed by three students from Computer Science and Information Technology College of our university won the fires prize of CUMCM.
China university students’ major subjects contests including four main contests organized by Ministry of Education, i.e. mathematic modeling, software design, electronic design, machinery design, and the Challenge Cup Contest organized by The Central League. Mathematical contest in modeling is of the first importance among the four major subjects contests. It has the most extensive scope and has greatest influence on the college students. 6820 groups, altogether more than 20,000 participants, took part in the contest. According to statistics, eight groups, in all, in Zhejiang province took the first prizes were won by three groups from Zhejiang University, and one group, respectively, from our university, Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang University of Science, and Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics. Our university’s group ranked four in the contest, and we were the only one out of Hangzhou District in Zhejiang province, which won the first prize of China in the four-year program groups’ contests.
This national prize was the first major contest prize which the four-year program group got since our university set up. Our university’s first national prize of three-year program group was also won in mathematic modeling contest. In five years, through starting optional courses of mathematic modeling, improving summer training system, building important courses and the front of quality developing, our university not only acquired the first prize of Ningbo government’s first educational achievements, but also gained good reputation in the whole province and even all over the country, especially, the results of three-year program group’s contest are always among the first in China. The breakthrough that the four-year program group made this year, was a symbol of our university’s educational achievement on four-year program teaching since the upgrading from a three-year program college to a four-year program college in 2002.
