Good Results in “FLTRP Cup”

The ninth “FLTRP Cup” national English debating contest was held in Beijing from March 29 to April 6. The contest was sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in collaboration with the International Spoken English Association and China English Teaching Association. Altogether there were 110 teams from over 100 universities such as Qinghau University, Beijing Foreign Languages University, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University, Guangdong Foreign Languages and Trade University, Sichuan University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Capital Normal University and so on. Two students, Ye Ling-fei and Lu Le from the Foreign Languages College of our university took part in the competition and achieved good results under the guidance of the deputy director of the English Department Zhang Rong and associate professor Fan Qi-qing, ranking second in all the participants in Zhejiang Province, thirty-sixth in all the participating teams in the country. The two contestants demonstrated high English proficiency, quick wit and elegant and graceful manners in the contests, leaving a deep and favourable impression on the judges and audience as well.
The “FLTRP Cup” national English debating contest has been held for nine years. So far the only national English debating contest in China, it is regarded as the most prestigious one in terms of its scale, participants, grading system and judges. The good results our students achieved epitomize great strides in English teaching.
