May 5, Mr. Li Lanqing, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, came to visit our university together with Liu Qi, party secretary of Ningbo Municipal Committee of the CPC.
In the international conference center of Ningbo Nottingham University, Xu Yafen, Director of Wanli University briefly reported the development and progresses of Wanli Corporation and Wanli University after Li’s second visit to Wanli in 2003. She especially reported about the building of Ningbo Nottingham University and its leading role in the internationalization of education. Li highly appreciated the achievements of Wanli and the dedication of director Xu to education.
In the evening, Li had a discussion about “protecting Chinese characters” with some high school leaders, teachers and students. He said that in the computer age, keyboard culture might bring great impact on the writing of Chinese characters. He said he found out a solution to this dilemma through his own favorite activities such as Chinese painting, calligraphy and seal engraving. He hoped that high schools could contribute to the protection of Chinese character and promotion of traditional Chinese culture. He also donated two of his books My Sketches for Masters and Lacquer Seal Cutting to our university. Chen Juexiang, Party Secretary and Executive President of Wanli University also joined in the above activities.
