ZHENGZHOU, October 15–A student team from the College of Biology and Environment has secured a National Silver Award at the finals of the 2025 China International College Students’ Innovation Competition. The prestigious event concluded today at Zhengzhou University.

The winning project, titled “Zhibei‘Bei’Xian: A Pioneer in Razor Clam Seed Industry Innovation,”competed in the Undergraduate Creativity Group within the Higher Education Track. (Note: The list of Bronze Award winners has not yet been released).

A Global Platform for Innovation

Jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and major government bodies—including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Chinese Academy of Sciences—this year’s competition served as a massive global platform for student innovation. Hosted by Zhengzhou University, the event attracted over 6 million projects from 5,673 schools across 161 countries and regions. It is widely regarded as the core benchmark for assessing the comprehensive innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities of university students.

Record-Breaking Participation and Preparation

The road to the national finals began in October 2024. Under the organization of the Admissions and Employment Office (Innovation and Entrepreneurship College), ZWU saw record-breaking engagement, with 8,719 students and 811 projects registering for the internal selection process.

To ensure success, the university implemented a comprehensive support system. This included:

Targeted Coaching: 47 specialized training sessions were held, with industry experts invited to provide multi-level guidance.

Intensive Camps: Teams participated in external training camps at Ningbo University.

Provincial Success: The university built strong momentum early on, winning 1 Gold and 3 Silver awards at the provincial level in July.

Leadership Support and the “Wanli Spirit”

On October 11, just days before the finals, President Lin Zhihua, Party Secretary Wang Weizhong, and Deputy Party Secretary Zhu Bangxiang visited the team to boost morale. They encouraged the students to embody the “Wanli Spirit”—the philosophy of exerting 100% effort even if there is only a 1% hope of success—and to approach the competition with confidence and determination.

Commitment to Innovation Education

This achievement highlights the university’s ongoing commitment to deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education. By adhering to the philosophy of “promoting teaching, learning, and innovation through competition,” the university continues to ignite student enthusiasm and cultivate high-quality talent capable of solving real-world problems.
