ZWU Holds Its 25th Track and Field Meet

On November 16, the 25th Track and Field Meet of ZWU kicked off. ZWU leaders, heads of relevant departments and secondary colleges, referees, athletes and representatives of teachers and students participated in the opening ceremony. President Lin Zhihua announced the opening. Ma Jianrong, vice president of ZWU and director of the Sports Committee of the university, presided over the opening ceremony. Wang Weizhong, vice president of ZWU and deputy secretary of ZWUParty Committee, made an opening speech.

The performances by the Aerobics Dance Club and Dragon Dance Club kicked off the sports meet. Accompanied by the passionate melody of “Athletes’ March”, the square teams, composed of students from each secondary college, faculty representatives, referees, and volunteers, entered the venue one after another. Their steady steps, neat formation and full energy demonstrated the vigorous spirit of Wanli teachers and students. After all the teams had entered the stadium, the national flag was raised and the national anthem was played. The entire audience stood and sang the anthem solemnly.

In his opening speech, Wang Weizhong said, “ZWU attaches great importance to the development of sports, adheres to the concept of ‘health ranks first’”. He added, “This summer, ZWU began to renovate and upgrade the stadium. With the unremitting efforts of the campus construction management, the Faculty of Sport and Recreation and other departments, a brand-new look of the stadium is presented before us, and a better environment is created for teachers and students to participate in sport activities. It is hoped that teachers and students will pay more attention to sports and actively participate in physical exercise to build a more harmonious, more beautiful, happier and healthier campus.” Cao Yuteng and Wang Chen, on behalf of all athletes and judges respectively, took the oath.

There were a total of 28 track and field events for the student athletes, and 3 categories of events for faculty members, namely, standard, fun, and track and field, which covered a total of 36 sub-events. 1185 teachers and students participated in the games, with 7 school records broken by 11 athletes.

After a fierce competition, College of Logistics and E-commerce, School of Business, School of Culture and Communication won the top three in terms of team scores. On the faculty side, School of Business, School of Logistics and E-commerce, and the team of administration won the top three. School of Business, School of Logistics and E-commerce won the Student Moral Award, and College of Foreign Languages, Huamei College of Health and Life Sciences, College of Continuing Education, and Faculty of Design, Art and Architecture won the Student Excellent Organization Award. The teams of administration and School of Culture and Communication were awarded the Moral and Virtue Award, and School of Business, College of Information and Intelligent Engineering, School of Logistics and E-Commerce, and College of Foreign Languages were awarded the Outstanding Organization Award for the Teaching Staff.

During the sports meet, braving the rains, low temperatures and gusts, the athletes showed the spirit of tenacity and consistent self-improvement, and the judges adhered to the principle of fairness and impartiality. All volunteers and meet staff worked together and made careful arrangements to guarantee logistical services, and the audience was enthusiastic, active and well-disciplined, fully demonstrating the high level of sports competition and good spirit of the whole school.
