Zhejiang Wanli University Library consists of the Qianhu central library and the Huilong library, with a total construction area of 25,000 square meters. The library holds a collection of 2.2 million volumes of printed literature and over 800 current periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages. Additionally, it has more than 2.7 million electronic books, over one million electronic journals, and 8.12 million dissertations. The library also provides access to 30,000 hours of audio and video resources and 50 Chinese and foreign language databases. With one academic lecture hall, 20 reading rooms featuring various functions, and 10 distinctive study spaces, it can accommodate over 3,000 readers simultaneously for reading and studying, meeting the diverse needs of conferences and academic exchanges. The reading rooms are open for 98 hours per week, and digital resources are available 24 hours a day on the campus network. The library receives approximately 1.4 million visitors annually.

In terms of service philosophy, aligning with the overall development goals of the university and the information construction requirements for cultivating high-quality applied talents, the library consistently adheres to the principle of “Reader-first, Service-oriented.” With a focus on readers and the implementation of an “Initial Inquiry Responsibility System”, the library aims to promptly address readers’ inquiries related to the utilization of literature and information resources. It endeavors to establish a literature and information assurance system guided by discipline-specific services, personalized services, and interactive services, providing comprehensive information services for the entire university community.

In terms of functional layout, the library provides both quiet study spaces and open discussion spaces. Reading rooms are designed to facilitate individual student study, while open discussion spaces, including distinctive learning spaces such as creative areas, discussion zones, Q&A spaces, and small meeting rooms, are available to facilitate student learning, discussion, and communication.

In terms of management mode, an integrated approach of “human-machine-book” and “borrowing-collection-reading” is employed. The library operates with a one-stop management model featuring open stacks and one single entrance/exit.

In terms of collection development, the library adopts a system featuring a combination of professional staff as the main force and subject librarians from various colleges as the supplementary force, and a mix of self-purchase and resource sharing. This ensures that resource development aligns more closely with the developmental needs of various disciplines. The library has achieved comprehensive sharing of both physical and digital resources with Ningbo University Zone Library.

In terms of characteristic services, the library has shifted from documentation services to knowledge services. In terms of the service mode, one-way services are shifted into multi-directional services, and passive services are shifted into active services, with the service environment becoming more ubiquitous, personalized, and intelligent.

  • Personalized services: The library offers personalized services such as smart library, seat reservation, virtual book positioning, online shopping, and special space services.

  • Theme activity services: To inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, promote the construction of campus culture, cultivate people with culture, the library carries out “Reading Festival” activities in spring and summer, and “Wanli Book Fragrance Cultural Festival” activities in autumn and winter.

  • Independent services: The library provides independent services, including WeChat public account, Zhiyuan Reading Alliance, Library Volunteer Team, and QQ platform.

  • Disciplinary services: The library provides thesis testing, document delivery, inter-library loan, topic setting services, online consultation, journal impact factor and paper citations detection services.

  • Quality development services: The library Carries out teaching training programs such as “freshmen admission education”, “reading credit quality development education”, “literature retrieval classes” and “embedded teaching” and incorporate them into the school’s teaching curriculum management system.

  • Modernized smart experience services: The Huilong Hall has introduced advanced smart equipment such as VR/MR, the silent warehouse, the reading booth, the electronic chessboard, the electronic calligraphy table, and the electronic piano, and adopted all-optical networks to achieve full coverage of WiFi6 wireless network, providing a convenient “information highway” for smart learning in the library.

The library adheres to the concept of “People-oriented, Service-oriented”, and integrates this concept into the entire process of talent cultivation. We explore new educational approaches and carry out personalized, characteristic, and professional services in terms of learning support, teaching support, and cultural inheritance. We have built exchange and sharing platforms for academic discussion, exchange of ideas, and knowledge dissemination, and created a warm, comfortable, and convenient learning and research environment for both teachers and students. With the cultivation of humanistic spirit and the improvement of humanistic quality as the code of conduct, we are committed to the construction of a library that functions as three major platforms for learning, activities, and services respectively, and turning the library into a new cultural highland as well as a new frontier for talent cultivation.
