On October 15, the national finals of the 2024 China International College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition concluded at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The project of Business School, “Gaisi Ultrasonic—A Leader in Next-Generation High-Precision Gas Measurement Equipment”, won the national silver award in the undergraduate entrepreneurship category. Additionally, the projects “Smart Scent—Innovators in Complex Odor Analysis” from the School of Business and “Cloud Selection—Creating a New Model for Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance in the Era of Common Prosperity” from the School of Culture and Communication each received a bronze award. This achievement follows last year’s gold medal won at the national finals.
The competition is co-hosted by the Ministry of Education, the National Development and Reform Commission, and other ministries, making it the highest-level, most authoritative, and influential event for college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship in China. Our faculty and students actively participated in it, with a record 870 projects registered and a total of 7,880 student participants.
After the competition was announced, ZWU organized training sessions and invited industry experts to provide multiple rounds of guidance on key projects, focusing on project logic, content refinement, and model construction. Over 50 specialized training sessions were conducted to continuously improve the quality of the projects and the presentation skills of the teams. Team members also attended training camps at Ningbo University and Zhejiang Ocean University to prepare thoroughly.
On October 11, ZWU leaders, including President Lin Zhihua, Party Secretary Wang Weizhong, and Deputy Party Secretary Zhu Bangxiang, visited and encouraged the competition teams, observing their pre-competition training and inquiring about their preparation work. They motivated students to embody the spirit of “I dare to explore; I can innovate” and to approach the competition with a positive mindset.
In the provincial competition held in August, ZWU achieved one gold, six silver medals, and an award for excellent organization, laying a solid foundation for the national finals.
In recent years, ZWU has placed great emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship education, striving for deep integration of competition, industry, education, and research. We have established a comprehensive, multi-level, personalized, and open innovation and entrepreneurship education ecosystem. Through internal selection competitions, work deployment meetings, and key project promotion meetings, we continuously stimulate students’ innovative potential and cultivate outstanding innovative talents.
This competition has not only showcased the achievements of our innovation and entrepreneurship education but also affirmed the innovative spirit and capabilities of our faculty and students. Moving forward, ZWU will continue to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship education, enhancing students’ innovative abilities and entrepreneurial qualities, and contributing to the development of high-quality talents with innovative spirit and practical skills, thereby advancing our innovation and entrepreneurship education to new heights.
