The School of Foreign Languages adheres to the educational philosophy of “Student-centered, Teacher-based, Market-oriented, and Globally-linked”, and actively explores the unique way of helping them “grow up and become a man of virtue and value”. The School consists of the Department of English, the Department of Japanese, and the Foreign Language Center, with three undergraduate majors in English, Business English, and Japanese, of which the English major is a Key Major and a First-Class Major of Zhejiang Province.
The School has 10 research institutes (centers): Institute of Bilingual Lexicography, Institute of Applied Linguistics, Institute of European and American Cultures, Institute of Central and Eastern European Culture and Education, Center for Czech Language and Culture, Center for Japanese Language and Culture, Center for Russian Language and Culture, Center for Chinese Language and Culture (located in Yaroslav State University), Center for Bulgarian National and Regional Studies, and Center for Czech National and Regional Studies. It has also been approved as “One Belt, One Road” Language Institute, Zhejiang International Students’ National Education Workshop and “China-Bulgaria Silk Road Institute”.
The School has a vigorous, well-structured and experienced faculty, including more than 30 PhDs, foreign experts, master’s degree supervisors, Ningbo Famous Teachers, and Ningbo Leading and Top-notch Talents. In addition, there are 3 distinguished professors and 17 foreign teachers with high reputation in the foreign language field. The School has hired more than 40 industrial mentors and entrepreneurship mentors. The School advocates whole-staff education, establishes “Master Teacher Workshops” and fully implements the system of “Counselor + Head Teacher + Class Mentor”.
The School is running a number of international education cooperation programs, such as exchange programs, double-degree programs, and combined bachelor-master degree programs, with more than 30 colleges and universities in over 20 countries, including the U.S.A., the U.K., France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan, Russia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Sweden, and Poland.
